WINNER: Shawn and Liz Denner $3,490
Shawn and Liz Denner began entering Curling Alberta’s 50/50 raffle on the first day of the Scotties Tournaments of Hearts, and have done so every game day since. Sometimes they were among the first to purchase tickets, and tried to increase their chance of success by playing on days when the 50/50 raffle was a little quieter. The odds were definitely in their favour on Wednesday, as they were the big winners of $3,490.
It’s been an eventful year for Shawn and Liz, as they will be celebrating their first wedding anniversary in June and recently bought a new home in Calgary. They are busy with their respective careers, with Liz owning her own cleaning company and Shawn working in the telecom industry. Outside of work, they enjoy hiking, frisbee golf and watching curling. While neither of them curl, Shawn laughingly says, “I’m a really good spectator.”
With so much upheaval in the world today, Shawn and Liz have been thoroughly enjoying watching all of the live curling and are glad to see sporting organizations and teams back in action. Having teams to root for and seeing those big and bright moments on screen connect us all, even when we can’t be physically in the stands. Buying 50/50 tickets was a fun way they could support the sport they that they both love, especially in their home city. “Curling seems like such a tight community, though we aren’t involved outside of being a spectator,” said Shawn. “But it’s always fun, everyone always puts on a good show and the venues and organizers are always excellent.” Spoken like a veteran curling fan.
