COCHRANE – A trio of people have been charged with a series of break and enters at golf courses around the Calgary-area, including Kananaskis Country Golf Course.
The Cochrane Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) charged a 37-year-old Calgary man and a 20-year-old Calgary woman ranging from attempted murder with a firearm, discharge of a firearm with intent, break and enter to steal a firearm and use of a firearm while committing an offence, according to police.
According to an RCMP media release, multiple RCMP detachments in its southern Alberta district had been investigating a spree of break and enters which occurred in January and February to golf courses and other businesses in several counties surrounding Calgary. The Cochrane CRU was assigned the investigation on Jan. 30, 2024, police said.
Police said the investigation identified a Volkswagen Jetta as well as the man and woman facing charges.
Cochrane's CRU as well as officers from Calgary Police Service and Southern Alberta District CRU executed a search warrant Feb. 9 at a northwest Calgary home, said police. Police seized laptops, motorcycles, firearms, Canadian money and golf accessories. A third woman, who was released on an undertaking, was also charged, stated the release.
Police said their investigation linked the three people to multiple break and enters at 11 different golf courses – including Kananaskis Country Golf Course – and others in Rocky View County, Mountain View County, Foothills County, Tsuut'ina, Water Valley and Calgary.
All three people will appear in court at a later date.
