Vehicle accident forces closure of westbound TCH near Highway 40

Drivers are urged to take a different route; however the eastbound lane of the Trans-Canada Highway remains open.

KANANASKIS – The westbound lane of the Trans-Canada Highway is closed near Highway 40 due to a serious motor vehicle accident Thursday afternoon (Feb. 9)

Emergency crews are on scene of the accident, which happened just after 1:30 p.m, and police said a semi and a passenger vehicle were involved.

Adam Loria, spokesperson for Alberta EMS, said two individuals were transported by ambulance to Foothills Medical Centre, noting paramedics stood down STARS air ambulance that had also been called to the scene.

"They each suffered serious injuries, but are considered non-life threatening," he said.

Alberta 511 is telling drivers to expect major delays.
