LAKE LOUISE – A tree posing a danger to a transmission line in Banff National Park is forcing a planned power outage for Wednesday morning (Nov. 8).

The outage is scheduled to start at 7:30 a.m. and last for about three hours and will affect areas west of Sunshine, up to and including Lake Louise. The Town of Banff will not be impacted.

AltaLink officials said the outage is needed to complete “urgent work” on one of its transmission lines in Banff National Park.

“There is a dangerous tree at high risk of falling and contacting the transmission line,” said Amanda Sadleir, AltaLink’s manager of corporate communications in a notice.

“A power outage is required to safely complete the work to remove it.”
