LAKE LOUISE – RCMP have taken one person into custody near Mosquito Creek in Banff National Park.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl Gina Slaney said police and park wardens attempted to stop a vehicle, and the man fled into the woods, noting there are no other details available at this point.

“The operation will conclude shortly and there is no risk to the public in this area,” states the Banff RCMP detachment on its Facebook post at 1:42 p.m.

A post about an hour earlier indicated a heavy police presence had descended on Highway 93 North near Mosquito Creek.

While saying there was no current threat to public safety, RCMP urged motorists not to stop or pick up any hitchhikers.
