MORLEY - An abandoned house near Morley burned to the ground on July 19 – the second house fire on the reserve in just over a week.
Seven firefighters and two fire trucks from Exshaw responded to the call at about 11:45 p.m. and remained on scene until about 4 a.m. when the fire was finally extinguished.
"It took quite a bit of water, it was pretty well engulfed when we got there," said Rick Lyster, fire chief for Exshaw Fire Rescue.
On July 10 a house fire on Spring Road, west of the townsite, forced the occupants of the home to flea.
Cochrane RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said both fires are being treated as suspicious, but at this point there's no reason to believe the fires are related.
"There's no indication to determine if the two are linked," said Savinkoff.
"Because of the nature of it being an abandoned house, it wasn't called in for a while so there's not much evidence with that one right now," said Savinkoff. "I would consider them both suspicious, but I wouldn't consider them related at this point."
