BANFF – Parks Canada is hosting its 21st annual planning forum next week and is seeking input across the country to inform the process for creating a new 10-year management plan for Banff National Park.

The forum, next Tuesday and Wednesday (Feb. 19-20) is being held at the Banff Park Lodge and is open to the public, with opening presentations on the first day beginning at 9 a.m.

The forum is a chance for key stakeholders and the public to speak to issues that matter to them regarding the national park and share ideas for the future management of the area.

The Canada National Parks Act requires each one of Canada’s national parks to have a management plan in place, and Banff’s last 10-year plan was approved in 2010.

A management plan sets out the vision and long-term strategic direction for the park, as well as how it will be achieved. It also prescribes how natural and cultural resources will be protected, public education and understanding promoted and visitor experience managed.

Parks Canada launched its nation-wide engagement on the Banff Management Plan on Jan. 30 at
www.letstalkmountainparks.ca with feedback accepted until April 30.
