STONEY NAKODA –Cochrane RCMP arrested and charged three people after a tip from a local security company led to a vehicle chase on the Stoney Nakoda First Nation last Thursday (April 25).

Cochrane RCMP were notified of a suspicious vehicle by Nakoda Security that night and the investigation revealed the truck was previously reported stolen from Calgary.

"The security in Morley had called because a Nation member saw the Dodge Ram with occupants asleep inside," Const. Jennifer Brewer explained.

"The vehicle ended up being stolen out of Calgary and was gone by the time the RCMP members arrived. The security guard looked at the photos and identified the driver."

The RCMP conducted an extensive search of the area, but the driver had fled from police on Star Ranch Road heading east bound. While officers attempted to follow the vehicle and two suspects, another truck blocked the officer’s path and fled as well.

The second truck was located quickly and with the help of a police dog, Leah Beaver, 39, was located, charged and arrested with resisting/obstructing a peace office.

Meanwhile the Dodge Ram continued to evade police resulting in RCMP using a spike belt. But while the tires on the Dodge Ram were deflated, the suspects continued to drive until it was not possible for the vehicle to move anymore and Cochrane RCMP, Airdrie RCMP and police dog services arrested driver and passenger.

Brandon Unrau, 23, with no fixed address, was charged with 14 offences from the Criminal Code including flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, failure to comply and possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes.

Additionally, Unrau was wanted on several charges out of the Beiseker detachment including assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, theft of truck and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. He also had additional warrants in Cold Lake, Vegreville and was wanted for being unlawfully at large by the Calgary Police Service.

Karley Rylaarsdam, 30, was also charged with possession of property obtained by crime, possession of break-in instruments, along with being wanted on outstanding warrants.

It is unknown if the Unrau, Rylaarsdam and Beaver were known to each other.

There was also two other people in the vehicle with Beaver that RCMP are still attempting to locate.

RCMP are reminding the public that if they see a person of interest to the RCMP to never approach them, but call their local RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers instead.

"We do thank the public for this information which was a lead to finding this vehicle and ultimately those wanted," Const. Brewer said.

If anyone has information about this, or any other crimes is asked to please contact the Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000. Or if you want to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
