Woman dead after fall at Grassi Lakes rock climbing area

A woman has died after she fell at Grassi Lakes rock climbing area Saturday (June 29) afternoon, according to the Canmore RCMP. Alberta Health Services told the Outlook they were called to a Spray Lakes trailhead at around 12:30 p.m.

A woman has died after she fell at Grassi Lakes rock climbing area Saturday (June 29) afternoon, according to the Canmore RCMP.

Alberta Health Services told the Outlook they were called to a Spray Lakes trailhead at around 12:30 p.m. with reports a climber had been injured.

Canmore RCMP later said the incident occurred at the Grassi Lakes rock climbing area where a climber fell approximately 35 meters. RCMP said a female climber was pronounced dead at the scene.

There is no more information about the identity of the woman while RCMP work to notify next of kin.

The investigation into the cause of the fall is ongoing.
