BANFF – The Bears showed no mercy against the Calgary Saracens with a crushing home opener victory on Saturday (June 1) at the Banff Rec Grounds.

Officially, the Calgary Rugby Union's men's game score was 20-0 for the Bears after the Saracens forfeited due to a player shortage, per Rugby Alberta rules.

The Bears are 2-2 this season.

The match was still played after some player swapping though, which saw the Bears put up a ridiculous 94-5 on the scoreboard.

Bears’ Mark Hooper scored led the offence with three tries and Scott Chisholm ran two in.

Chisholm said that despite what the scoreboard said, the Bears can use the win as a learning process.

“We need to kind of clue in a bit more and concentrate once we start getting up on a team,” he said. “We cant let off the gas a little bit and definitely cleaning up our breakdowns a bit more would help, but other than that it was pretty good.”
