Canmore Eagles put Lloydminster Bobcats to elimination brink

The Canmore Eagles are one game away from the second round of the Alberta Junior Hockey League playoffs after shutting out the Lloydminster Bobcats 3-0 in Game 4 on Wednesday (March 20).

CANMORE – The Canmore Eagles are one game away from the second round of the Alberta Junior Hockey League playoffs after shutting out the Lloydminster Bobcats 3-0 in Game 4 on Wednesday (March 20).

The win gives the Eagles a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven game series after Canmore held the Bobcats to only 12 shots as Matthew Malin picked up the shutout.

Rookie forward Zach Coutu opened the game with a goal about midway through the first period, setting the tone for the rest of the game.

Josh Hoekstra scored 2:41 into the second period which was followed a little more than three minutes later with a shorthanded goal from Kayden Rawji.

The Eagles had 38 shots on net, as both teams had three power play opportunities.

Game 5 will take the Eagles on the road to Lloydminster’s home ice on Friday (March 22) at 7 p.m.

If needed, Game 6 is back in Canmore Sunday (March 24) and Game 7 would return to Lloydminster on Tuesday (March 26).
