CANMORE - The Canmore Eagles traded veteran goaltender, Logan Dyck, to the Notre Dame Hounds and the local club isn’t done dealing yet.

The Eagles announced the trade on Saturday (Oct. 12), which swaps Dyck for future considerations with the Saskatchewan Junior A Hockey League club.

The trade comes at a time where seven Eagles were fighting over the league-max six roster spots for 20 year olds per team. After evaluating the seven players, team management pulled the trigger on the Dyck deal.

“Logan had an opportunity in net but things got a bit stale and he wasn’t necessarily the goalie he can be,” said Andrew Milne, Eagles head coach and general manager. “The best thing for the hockey club is bringing in someone younger and that’s the direction we're going in.”

The Hounds, from Wilcox, identified the veteran netminder as someone they wanted and he'll get a fresh start and new opportunity to play, Milne added.

In a Twitter post from the Hounds, Dyck said: “I’m super excited to get started with the club. It seems like a great organization, and I’m ready to step in and help the team win right away.”

In six AJHL starts in 2019-20, Dyck, who turns 20 in November, was 2-4 with an .840 save percentage and 4.79 goals against average.

Dyck started with the Eagles in 2017-18, and his all time stats were 26-31-3 with an .880 save percentage and 3.86 goals against average.

The trade marks the beginning of a goalie shake up for the Eagles. The general manager said a move for a new goalie “outside” the AJHL could be finalized soon. No other information was provided at this time.

Eagles rookie goalie, Devin Chapman, 18, steps in as the team’s top netminder at the moment. In six games this season, Chapman is 2-3 with an .875 save percentage and 4.01 goals against average.

Up next, the Eagles are on a three-game northern swing starting Friday (Oct. 18) in Drayton Valley against the Thunder.

On Wednesday (Oct. 23), the Eagles are scheduled to debut at the newly renovated Alex Kaleta Arena inside the Canmore Rec Centre. Puck drop is 7 p.m. against the Drumheller Dragons.
