“I think there is some value at least for a year or two to see if they can do something for the municipality. If we decide its not something for us, we can step out of it at some point.”

MUNICIPAL DISTRICT OF BIGHORN – The Municipal District of Bighorn council was receptive to joining a provincial economic organization, but have yet to select the person to represent the municipality.

Bighorn council expressed an interest in joining the Central Alberta Economic Partnership (CAEP) at its Aug. 23 meeting, but will discuss an interim representative when it holds its organizational review meeting in September.

“I think the presentation was very well done,” said Bighorn Reeve Lisa Rosvold. “I see the value in our municipality being a member of this partnership.”

The cost to join the organization is 70 cents per capita in 2022, about $420. That cost goes up to 80 cents per capita in 2023 and 90 cents per capita in 2024.

Coun. Rick Tuza agreed joining CAEP was a good idea, but possibly only on a temporary basis.

“I think there is some value at least for a year or two to see if they can do something for the municipality,” Tuza said. “If we decide its not something for us, we can step out of it at some point.”

At the July 12 MD council meeting, a delegation spoke to council about joining the CAEP. The organization provides learning opportunities in term of economic development and how to implement economic development.

Coun. Alice James also wanted to join and see how it can help the MD.

“I think investigating it by participating has its value, other than just reading the information, but seeing how it helps us and develops us.”
