Americana musician gets spotlight in Canmore

On Jan. 23 at Eclipse Coffee Roasters at 1516 Railway Ave, Buckley will serenade the crowd with her Americana music to kick off her tour.

CANMORE – The stage is set, the guitar is tuned, as Mariel Buckley gears up to entertain Canmore with her unique sound.

On Jan. 23 at Eclipse Coffee Roasters at 1516 Railway Ave, Buckley will serenade the crowd with her Americana music to kick off her tour.

Doors swing open at 6 p.m. with the musician of 11 years hitting the stage for 7 p.m. Tickets can be found on the Eclipse Coffee Roasters website, https://eclipsecoffeeroasters.com/products/mariel-buckley-january-23rd.

“You'll probably have a good time,” said Buckley. “I think, ultimately, it’s just a nice chance to go and listen to some tunes, you know, enjoy a good cup of coffee.”

Buckley is no stranger to the stage as she comes from years of open mics and touring North America. She has performed in front of audiences at the Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg folk festivals, as well as the AmericanaFest in Tennesee, South by Southwest music festival in Texas and the Jackalope Jabomboree in Oregon.

“I’ve got a musical family and I was kind of playing lots of bars and open mics in my 20s and stuff and then I just sort of took it from there,” said Buckley.

Buckley’s debut album Driving in the Dark, released in 2018, launched her into the spotlight earning roots artist of the year in the 2019 Western Canadian Music Award. Following her debut album, she pumped out singles and EPs up until her sophomore album, Everywhere I Used to Be, released in 2022, which was nominated for the 2022 Polaris Music Prize.

“It did quite well. It got some pretty good write ups and a couple award nominations and stuff so you know, all the stuff you hoped for with the record,” said Buckley in regards to her past album.

“I’m working on some new songs right now to make a record next fall.”

Following her show in Canmore, Buckley will hit the road to B.C. for shows in Golden, Rossland, Vernon and back to Alberta in Turner Valley.
