BANFF – Chow down on a turkey drumstick and then listen to sticks thunder down on drums on Thanksgiving in Banff.

A heavy metal concert, featuring Montreal's First Fragment and local acts Human Stain, Suspended Glaciers and Kasey Nolan goes down at Melissa’s Missteak Monday (Oct. 10). Doors open at 9 p.m. and tickets are $10 on Eventbrite or at the door.

“I haven’t seen a bill at Mel's quite this heavy before so it will be awesome,” said co-promoter Kasey Suchowersky, who opens the show.

Headlining act First Fragment is an extreme neo-classical tech death band, known for endless shredding and its theatrical, hair-swinging stage presence. The five-piece band is on a cross-country tour showcasing its latest album, Gloire Eternelle.

“They have a really cool sound and it’s unlike anything you would have heard in Banff before,” said Suchowersky. “They have a sound that will appeal to a wider audience; they have a lot of technical prowess, [and] they’re very melodic.”

Three local acts are getting a spot on Mel's stage before the main event.

Suchowersky, under the stage name Kasey Nolan, a fingerstyle guitarist, opens the show. Plus, longtime Banff duo Human Stain, an instrumental hardcore band known for busting out an accordion mid-set, and new four-piece metal band Suspended Glaciers.

The show is Beauty In Chaos Productions and Pitworthy Promotions final in Banff this year; however, the still have one more big show in Canmore.

The Canmore Alternative Metal & Punk Festival II goes down Nov. 12 at artsPlace, featuring a 12-act lineup. Tickets will be available soon.
