KNAAK, Peter

Peter Knaak, K.C. peacefully passed away on September 19, 2023, at the age of 80 years in Canmore hospital with his family at his side.

Peter is survived by his loving wife and partner of 40 years, Derry; six children, Arden (Jay), Kerry (Jason), Jay (Cherene), Stephanie (Scott), Tyson (Megan), and Lindsay (Rob); nine grandchildren, Alexandra, Jack, Julia, June, Chantelle, Matthew, Nathan, Ada and Kate; sister-in-law, Rose; niece, Shannon; nephew, Joshua (and family); and former wife, Nini.

Peter was born in Hamburg, Germany and moved to Canada at the age of nine with his father (Fred, 1908 - 2009), mother (Gertrud, 1913 - 2005) and brother (Uve, 1949 - 2020). Peter’s passing brought a gentle close to more than 15 years of what he loved to call his ‘dream retirement’ filled with travelling, golfing, skiing, hiking and many happy adventures with friends and family. Peter had a remarkable career as a lawyer and, later, successful investor. He also served as an MLA under Peter Lougheed. But above all, Peter’s greatest pride and joy was his family.

Peter lived a full and rich life of integrity, honesty, loyalty, and wisdom. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the staff at Canmore General Hospital for the kindness, care and comfort provided to Peter and our whole family through this difficult time.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Edmonton with details to be determined.
