MAURICE PARENT         1937 - 2023

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Maurice (Moe) Parent on November 20, 2023

Moe was born on the farm in St. Joseph, Manitoba. He was the 6th of 7 children. As with many farm boys he escaped to the big city (Winnipeg) as soon as possible.  It was there that he met, and married the love of his life, Donna Scott.

They moved to Banff in March of 1961.  Moe worked various construction jobs before landing at Unwin's Lumber.  At Unwin's he had a revelation that his job would be easier with a forklift.  The purchase of this one machine soon lead to owning 7 forklifts which were rented all over the valley. The success of the forklifts was followed by the purchase of a crane truck. He was well known and respected by many of the valley's construction workers.

It wasn't all work and no play for Moe, however. While running a thriving business he was involved with Kinsmen (where he became a life member), the Legion, and the curling club. He made many lifelong friends because of his humour and open-heartedness. In 1992 he sold the business and headed south to Mesa, AZ where he discovered golf and made many more friends.  He loved being a snowbird but was bored in the summer so he took a job running the landfill for the town. He continued to enjoy the snowbird life until he turned 80.

Moe is survived by two sons: Paul (Marife) and Roger (Diana), and one grandson: Skylar (Rina).  He will also be missed by 2 surviving sisters: Carmelle  and Marie,  as well as a plethora of nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his wife of 36 years, Donna, in 1997.

Cremation has taken place.  There will be a public celebration of life in the spring.   (Time and location will be announced)
