Mountain Littles Expands Services and Acquires Hijinx Toy Shop

Mountain Littles provides everything from clothing to care items, feeding to gear, playtime, and prenatal and postpartum care.

Mountain Littles, the baby store that carries everything your little one needs, is expanding with rental services and the acquisition of Hijinx Toy Shop.

When Kim and Brian Morvan opened Mountain Littles in November 2020, their aim was to provide more than baby items. They wanted to provide a resource where families could make meaningful connections while finding everything for their little one’s needs.

“Early parenthood can be overwhelming,” says Kim. As a mother of two, she knows this firsthand. “We used to live in Halifax and we liked the boutique baby shops there. We thought the Bow Valley needed this because from here to Banff and Lake Louise, there are no baby-focussed stores.”

Mountain Littles provides everything from clothing to care items, feeding to gear, playtime, and prenatal and postpartum care.

An exciting new service that has just been added is rentals.

“When you travel,” explains Kim, “you don’t want to bring a crib and a highchair. Additionally, lots of tourists come here looking to get outdoors. They can rent chariots with bike attachments, carriers, and more.”

Kim and Brian ensure each customer receives focussed attention and the store owners go above and beyond to ensure outstanding customer service. They offer FREE local delivery from Banff to Lac Des Arcs and they are happy to help assemble high chairs, strollers, and other gear. Customers especially love that they can have their questions answered, learn which product best suits their needs, see the products in person, and know that the safety standards are compliant with Canadian regulations.

“The families we work with are the greatest reward,” smiles Kim. “Since opening, we have seen moms go from pregnancy to bringing their babies to the store and now those babies are toddlers. It is a pleasure being part of the community in this way. Everyone is so supportive of each other and passionate about supporting each other’s businesses. We were so warmly welcomed when we opened. Shortly after we did, we had our second daughter – nearly three months premature. The community and the customers were incredibly supportive with food, gift cards, gifts for our older daughter – so much support poured in and we are very grateful for that.

Mountain Littles is proud to be a strong community supporter by providing items for silent auctions and donations to local causes such as the Canmore Area Health Foundation, Spirit North, Eagle’s Nest Stoney Family Shelter and the Indian Residential School Survivors Society.

With Mountain Littles established and growing, the Morvans are thrilled to announce they are purchasing Hijinx Toy Shop and will take it over as of August 1.

“It feels like a natural progression since we carry items for babies and up to about five years old. With the addition of Hijinx, we can provide toys and items for older children too,” says Kim.

As they gear up for the new chapter with the rental service and addition of Hijinx, Kim and Brian say a very big thank you to the community, their customers, their team, and their girls Minah and Danie. They especially want to thank Sonja Jovanovic, the previous owner of Hijinx, who has been so supportive from the opening of Mountain Littles to the transition of Hijinx after 18 years.
