ÎYÂRHE NAKODA – Officers are searching for a man whose attempted arrest in Eden Valley on Îyârhe Nakoda First Nation Wednesday (Oct. 11) resulted in a heavy police presence at a home in the community.
After receiving a call at 10:46 a.m. to execute the arrest, Turney Valley RCMP officers arrived at the residence and were given reason to believe the man was inside and armed with a weapon.
“As a result, we called in additional police resources and upon entering the home, subsequently failed to locate him,” said RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Troy Savinkoff.
Savinkoff noted RCMP are not authorized to share additional details of the arrest or the identity of the man at this time, but he added it is believed the man is an occupant of the home.
A press release issued in response to the incident earlier in the day warned residents to stay away from the area and not post the actions of police on social media for the safety of officers and others involved.
RCMP later issued another press release after 5 p.m. stating the police operation was over.
“RCMP don’t believe that there was or is an ongoing risk to the community,” said Savinkoff.
“Efforts to locate this male continue by local RCMP.”
