We take exception to the wording that the current Catholic church (Sacred Heart) is “not that beautiful.” In our opinion, it is a beautiful small church built by the miners and the whole of the community of Canmore.

You have to remember that when the Sacred Heart church was built in 1960, Canmore was a mining town and did not have the benefit of the tourism dollar.

Canmore at that time was the poor second cousin to Banff which had always been a tourist destination. Canmore could not afford to build an ostentatious church and it would have been out of place in a small mountain town.

When our current Sacred Heart church is demolished, it will be a sad day for many long time residents of Canmore.
