A rainbow thanks

It is with a proud heart that I say thank you to Joesph Bembridge and Corrie DiManno. Your contributions to this town through Banff Pride have been tremendous.

It is with a proud heart that I say thank you to Joesph Bembridge and Corrie DiManno. Your contributions to this town through Banff Pride have been tremendous.

This event is special because you have created a welcoming space for both straight (allies) and LGTBQ2 people.

Arriving 10 years ago as an out gay teacher, there was not much in the way of community events or gatherings in Banff. There were some occasional coffee chats, sporadic board game nights and an occasional meal as an LGTBQ2 group, but there was no celebration of our diversity in Banff.

Over the past five years through Banff Pride led by Joe and Corrie and associated events put on by community members, there has been a strong LGBTQ2 celebration throughout our town. This year it was great to see additional events such as: drag queen storytelling at the library, displays around town from supporting businesses, flag raising at the high school, rainbow crosswalk, which helped to complement the main Banff Pride event at Wild Bill’s.

Again, Joe and Corrie, thank you for your energy, dedication and vision for Banff Pride. Our town is better and more inclusive because of your work.

Shane Nizinkevich,

Banff
