An apology is needed

Editor:

Recently, Blake Richards, Member of Parliament for Banff Airdrie, rose in the House and made some defamatory remarks about Liberal candidate Marlo Raynolds.

Those comments were made in reliance upon a scurrilous story carried in Sun Media, which was based on an indistinct secret recording made by a Conservative functionary at a public forum held by Mr. Raynolds, and then mis-identified as Mr. Raynolds’ own words.

The person who actually did speak the words has come forward and identified himself, and it is clear that the quote was not spoken by Mr. Raynolds. Mr. Raynolds has received a (very tiny) printed retraction by Sun Media, published in their papers.

Because Mr. Richards rose in the House and criticized Mr. Raynolds based on those mis-attributed words, I believe that the situation requires that Mr. Richards publish a retraction, and ask that the Hansard record be corrected to show that the allegation was not true.

Please feel free to join me in writing to Mr. Richards asking him (politely, of course) to publish a retraction and have it entered into Hansard in whatever the acceptable manner is.

You can write to Mr. Richards at Blake Richards, MP, House of Commons, Ottawa Ontario K1A 0A6, or by email [email protected]. It will get to him. Thanks, and have a nice day, eh?

Caroline Yull,

Canmore
