Bad behaviour by cyclists needs to be addressed

Despite having cycle lanes provided for them in both towns, some of them insist on riding hell for leather on public footpaths and generally behaving in a way which I consider is very dangerous for the average pedestrian out for a quiet walk.

If they are tourists, would they behave like this at home? I think probably not.

This was really brought home to me whilst I was in Canmore, walking on the wooded footpath adjacent to Bow Valley Trail, at the back of the Coast Hotel, going east. I saw a lady who was quite a way in front of me almost knocked over by what appeared to be an elderly person on one of those motorized scooters who had been travelling far too close behind the pedestrian and seemed totally unaware of his/her surroundings.

The lady had had to jump to the right to avoid a speeding cyclist heading straight for her.

Unfortunately, the scooter rider drove straight into the lady’s right side. I was too far away to offer assistance, but could see the scooter rider leaving the scene rapidly. I consider this is awful behaviour.

Young or old, one has a right to consider one’s fellow path users.
