Editor: I recently attended a funeral service at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church on the Tsuut’ina Nation, near Calgary. My friend, Dana did not see her 50th birthday; she succumbed to alcoholism and was buried on her land.
On my way to the service I made the mistake of drinking a large Tim Horton’s coffee thinking I would be able to use the bathroom before the service. All churches have washrooms, I thought. I was wrong. A tilting green plastic outhouse awaited my arrival with no safe running water.
Two weeks ago, I read that the Catholic Bishop from Calgary blessed the new chapel at Banff Mineral Springs Hospital, and in the most recent Outlook there are plans for a $9.2 million Catholic Church planned for Canmore.
I hope to read soon that the Catholic church is planning a complete renovation to the church on the Tsuut’ina Nation, so those members can worship in comfort.
