Consider billeting a hockey player

Editor: I believe that there is a misconception of what you are going to get when you billet a hockey player. Many people think “oh no, I am going to get a big, dumb, old player that eats a lot”.

I believe that there is a misconception of what you are going to get when you billet a hockey player. Many people think “oh no, I am going to get a big, dumb, old player that eats a lot”.

That is certainly not the case as most of our players are highly motivated, high-performance athletes who maintain above average grades in school.

Their main goal is to play at the highest level of hockey possible, whether it is college or professional. Canmore is a town of high-performance athletes and these hockey players are no different.

Successful billeting is an essential component in our ability to ice the best Junior A Hockey club possible. Without sufficient billet homes, we simply would not operate a Junior A hockey team in Canmore.

In closing, I would like to share a recent note from the Highland Games Committee on their impressions of our Canmore Eagle hockey players and how important they are to the overall well being of this community:

Evening Andrew (Coach Milne)

Thank you very much for sending your players over to help us with the setup of the Highland Games. You should be very proud of these young players. We found them very helpful and a pleasure to work with.

The players made a great impression on all of the volunteers that they interacted with, and I am very proud to call the Canmore Eagles a great organization with great leadership, which comes from the top down.

Again many thanks from the Highland Games, and good luck in the weekend games and I will be there at the home opener on Sept 6.

GO EAGLES GO – Bruce Watson –Retired guy - Canmore, Alberta.”

The importance of billeting a hockey player is not only essential for team’s success, but also for the town’s success. If you have spare room available in your home, please consider the possibility of billeting a hockey player. As we prepare to open our AJHL regular season, we are in urgent need for three more homes for our incoming players. If you can help, please contact myself or Monique DesRosiers billet co-ordinator at [email protected]. Thank-you.
