Editor: Approval of critical affordable housing project should be applauded.
I take exception to the lead on the front page story on the approval of a new affordable housing project for Canmore. The journalist uses some charged language, describing Canmore’s elected officials as an “outgoing council.”
This paints the current mayor and councillors as opportunistic and is a wholly unfair portrayal.
We live in a democracy where municipal elections are held every four years – the next is in October. The mayor and councillors are elected to provide leadership to the community and their job ends with each election cycle – not before.
So this is not an outgoing council – it is our elected council.
