After fighting for my own store and a balance of chain stores in Banff, I felt incredibly disappointed with my own Town council.
In our last meeting, where I was asking for a moratorium on chain stores within one year – which gave the town council a year to put a quota system in place – one of the members even said, “This is a knee-jerk reaction to a perceived boogie-man bordering on the ridiculous.”
“Ridiculous”??!! It made me even question whether or not I wanted to live in a town where my own elected officials felt this way and had this reaction towards someone who voiced an opposing view. My faith, however, has been restored by my own landlord and the many voices of this valley.
I would sincerely like to thank Brewster Mountain Lodge and all of the people who have supported and continue to support independent business in this town.
