I feel the need to respond to Kara Townsend’s letter of last week, in which she takes issue with the fact the Outlook recently reported on property prices rebounding in the valley.

Ms. Townsend was unhappy with this article as it makes it harder for her to get on the property ladder. The fact that house prices are moving in Canmore is news. This is what a good newspaper is supposed to report on.

Should an article not be published because some townfolk don’t like the facts? How ridiculous. The facts are the facts – don’t shoot the messenger Ms. Townsend. And please don’t try to filter our newspaper for us.

On a separate note to the same letter writer, please don’t imply that the only people that care about house prices are the one per cent who call this “home” one weekend a year.

I doubt there are any owners at all in Canmore who visit just one weekend a year – most increase their usage every year, and many eventually become full-time residents. Canmore has a proportion of part-time owners because it is a wonderful place to be – consider yourself lucky that you get to be full-time, unlike some of us.

Tom Wanless,

Canmore
