Good time to re-think Main

Editor: On Saturday I had occasion to walk from the Drake down Main Street. Wow. Without cars it was laid back. Even the non-dug-up part was pretty Zen.

Over the next couple of months we are going to get used to parking somewhere other than Main Street and accessing those businesses on foot. Why don’t we take this opportunity to consider pedestrian and bike only traffic on Main Street?

All sorts of cities and towns have done the unimaginable and changed busy thoroughfares to carless oases (is this the plural of oasis?).

Better for the environment, and better for us. Oh, and while we’re at it, how about considering a stop light at the Communitea corner? With increased traffic on 10th Street, that’s an accident waiting to happen if I’ve ever seen one … not to mention the difficulties the fire department must be having going down 10th Street.
