Grateful for greenway

Editor: Two years ago, we watched helplessly from our yard as rampaging debris carried by Cougar Creek tugged away its banks, sweeping away landscaped pathways, benches, backyards, fences and decks … and the quiet security of its adjacent homeowners.

Editor: Two years ago, we watched helplessly from our yard as rampaging debris carried by Cougar Creek tugged away its banks, sweeping away landscaped pathways, benches, backyards, fences and decks … and the quiet security of its adjacent homeowners.

Today, we look out onto a new landscape – a symbol of the renewed sense of security – along the greenway of Cougar Creek. New fences, new decks, new lawns, new plantings … and beautifully landscaped berms on each side of Cougar Creek.

We’d like to express our heartfelt appreciation to all those responsible for the completion of this project over the last two months. To the Town of Canmore, particularly the engineering department and the project lead, Felix Camire, as well as the crew of both Bremner Engineering and PaulCo.

It was so impressive (and entertaining) to watch the operators maneuver their equipment, orchestrate the stockpiling and distribution of tons of silt and loam, finesse the final grades and slopes of the berms, and gently position boulders.

The care shown by the landscaping crew in planting and staking the 500 trees was equally notable.

The final greening of the project – hydroseeding – is certainly appreciated; with spring, there’ll be a new carpet of growth to mask much of the gray rock of which we’ve grown so weary. We’re voicing the similar sentiments expressed and shared with several of our neighbours.

Thank you again to all involved, including those behind the scenes who helped make this project such a success.

Eric Kuhn and Susan Webb,

Canmore
