The purpose of this letter is to reassure residents of Canmore that we have an excellent health care system.
On Thanksgiving weekend, my partner and I found ourselves in the Foothills Medical Centre emergency department. The projected wait time was one hour. My partner had become very ill.
We waited maybe 15 minutes in the waiting room, then we were admitted to the emergency. Tests were done in good time and doctors soon discussed plans of care. By evening, we were in Unit 36, Special Services, Foothills Hospital.
Every attempt was made to help my partner; constant assessments, constant concerns for comfort, continuous communication with us.
Sadly, my partner could not rally. He passed away Thanksgiving Sunday, peacefully, surrounded by family and a truly caring, compassionate staff.
I can assure you that if you are ill, you can be confident that you will be well cared for.
Our health system does work. The men and women of Alberta Health Services do care, are compassionate and totally professional. We do have an excellent health care system.
