High home prices not good news

In the article titled ‘Real estate rebounding’ in the Outlook (Jan. 23), one can’t help but wonder what your objective was in publishing such an insensitive article?

Was it to lower morale for hard-working families of the Bow Valley who keep saving for a piece of “paradise” and will never see that come to fruition?

Was it to boost publicity that Canmore is still an expensive and desirable place to live, or was it to brag about the savings on infrastructure given that the only individuals that can afford such mentioned properties are here twice a year and contribute nothing compared to the average Canmore citizen, nor to the local economy?

Read the classifieds or scroll through Kijiji and you will be alarmed at the amount of families that are in desperate need of decent, affordable housing. This article does nothing to reassure them that Canmore will be a permanent home for them.

Remember that these are people that bag your groceries, make your coffee, bank your money, teach your children and protect you. No one cares about $2 million land sales, families of the Bow Valley need to read articles on new and affordable housing options and that the community cares for all, not just the one per cent who call this “home” one weekend a year.
