How much affordable housing?

I asked, “What community need is this plan responding to?”

It took some time to find the person most informed in order to answer that. He said “affordable housing.”

I responded, “that is just great, so what proportion of the housing proposed will be in that category?” He said “up to 25 per cent.”

I took a few moments to process this. “Did you say that affordable housing is the community need and this will then represent 75 per cent of your proposed housing units?”

He restated, “No, it will be up to 25 per cent of our units.”

I offered that if they were responding to this major community need, perhaps the ratio had been miscalculated somehow.

At that point, we agreed that we would have a problem arriving at a common understanding of the priority need this project is addressing.
