Kudos to Carol

Shortly after buying our dream home in Canmore in 2002, I engaged in an often vigorous discussion in the pages of this newspaper with my chief opposition being (now councillor) Joanna McCallum. Oh boy, did Carol ever allow us to battle over the weekender effect, something Bob Sanford later wrote a book about.

Today I have moved on to be closer to my family in Idaho, but I will never forget the generosity of editor Picard to allow freedom of debate to take its course (Joanna and I made amends long ago – I think) something which will always remain in my memory. Her MO was always to allow expression and freedom of thought to flow freely – warts and all – on the people’s page.

I’ll also never forget becoming Carol’s Canmore Folk Music Festival “Food-Dude” two years running when she plunged head first into an organizational role with that important show.

Carol, you are dead wrong when you say that “more do more than you.” If there is, I can’t think of who that person might be.

Congratulations, enjoy the moment, you are more than worthy.

Alvin Shier,

Lethbridge
