Letter: Composting in Canmore should be celebrated

Sometimes it is the little things in life that are important.

I'm looking at one such little thing on my kitchen counter – my new compost bucket – and that little thing brings a big smile to my face.

I have lived in this town for over 30 years, and during every single one of those years I have anguished over the fact that well over a third of my household garbage – the compostable portion – was being sent at some considerable transportation to a large landfill, far from where I live.

Thanks to mayor and council, that just changed. Now, my apple core and all other organic items will remain part of the important nutrient cycle, going on to fertilize other living plants.

At last – it has been a long time coming, and we are finally there. Warm thanks to members of council and our committed Town administration for making this happen.

Gareth Thomson,
