Dear Jeff,
It takes so much bravery to step forth and say "I was wrong. I am sorry." I thank you, from my heart, for your published apology. Yes, your words were hateful. I shed many tears that week and the next.
But I would also like to speak of the beauty I witnessed as a result of your hate mail. My kids and friends rallied with me in no uncertain terms affirming I am loved and can be who I am. I dipped into despair and shame as others continued to defend you and visit your shop, but the unwavering support of those close to me was so amazing that I will never forget that experience. Without you, it would have just been another week.
You are right. We have a great community and it seems you belong right here with us. Would you be interested in joining me in a Pride walk next Sunday (Sept. 18) to begin "walking your talk"? We will go together to celebrate our inclusive, proud, supportive, openhearted community.
Bonnie Hamilton,
Canmore
