It is interesting the 2012 Banff Master Transportation Plan is cited as a reason a lane reversal on Banff’s Bow River Bridge has not been tried before because the report says it is not recommended.

The same report also says conversion of Banff Avenue into a pedestrian zone is not recommended, and yet in 2022 the 100 and 200 blocks of Banff Avenue are exactly that, and for at least one more year, on a trial basis. Perhaps the two trials should have been done in reverse?

Firstly, the bridge lane reversal with the whole length of Banff Avenue open to see how well traffic moves and secondly, have the lane reversal in place and Banff Avenue closed. Unfortunately, the Banff Avenue closure is in place until the fall of 2022, so the soonest a valid trial run of bridge lane reversal with an open Banff Avenue cannot occur until the summer of 2023.
