Editor:

I am writing to clarify the position of Bow Valley Climate Action with respect to the Three Sisters Mountain Village (TSMV) area structure plans (ASPs). Our group does not support the ASPs as currently written from a climate action perspective.

Early in the TSMV engagement process our organization decided we would focus on commenting on the extent to which the ASPs align with the Town of Canmore’s Climate Action Plan, rather than stating support or opposition to the proposed ASPs.

Although TSMV amended the initial drafts of the ASPs to better address the climate impacts of the proposed developments, the versions submitted for the Town approval still do not align with the Climate Action Plan and should be further amended to do so.

As they are currently written, there is no evidence the TSMV ASPs create a path that leads to the proposed development being net-zero or near net-zero, despite this being repeatedly promoted by TSMV.

The full details of the Bow Valley Climate Action's recommendations can be found on our website at bowvalleyclimateaction.org.
