The Town of Canmore has become overly zealous in assigning some new speed limits, notably in Larch Avenue which has recently been posted 30 kilometres an hour.

Larch Avenue has wide pavement, ample boulevards and few residences – most are on the cul de sacs – all providing excellent sight lines. As a dead end, it has a modest amount of traffic.

I drive Larch Avenue frequently at a safe and comfortable 40 km/h while 30 km/h is a nuisance. The Town should reconsider the 30 km/h limit.

If the Town wishes to tackle a more dangerous situation, it should examine busy and complicated Railway Avenue which is posted at 50 km/h.

Canmore
