It is soon Christmas time and I was wondering if it is a good time to ask you [Three Sisters Mountain Village] for a gift. A gift that would last for a long time, maybe several generations.

As you know, we need biodiversity and land is scarce in town. Every square inch of soil is being looked at with dollar signs instead of leaving it just as is, with trees and shrubs where wildlife could still roam and migrate from east to west and west to east.

I think you would feel at peace to know that the land could be used by humans to hike and listen to the creek flow through the seasons instead of housing.

We did realize this year how important forest, any wild space, any parks had on our population during COVID-19 with such positive impact and bringing some kind of peace, quietness and togetherness.

We can imagine how long a forest can last, the importance for climate change and the quality of air. Of course, the land we are talking about is small, but it would be a start.

How about having a vision of being the first town (Canmore) to take a stand on preserving its surroundings and its wildlife by being innovative and showing the province that it can be done as a joint venture (private and public)?

We need to look at our land, at our space in the long-term. Before being a builder or developer, you are a human being who wants to give back to the future generation, the best of all world.

On this note, I wish you a happy holiday, roaming through our parks while they last.

Katja Mogensen,

Canmore
