Wow – what happened to Canmore’s Main Street?

We’re a few years into a pedestrianized summer space and yet the Town’s approach appears to be “close off the street to vehicles. Job done.” How about some cohesion? All decks protrude by four metres, all planters are in a certain style. Extra benches that all match placed in appropriate places. Maybe some architectural guidelines for the patios/street sellers. Some appropriate accents placed throughout. And at the centre of it all? We’ve had cool statues and artwork. But this year? Three plastic lime green plant pots with some cheap plants in them.

No one is taking their photos with those this year. We may not be Banff, but we can do so much better than this. It’s great that you’re beautifying Railway Avenue and Bow Valley Trail, but can we possibly prioritize Main Street in our town? It is, after all, the No. 1 attractant for all those high-spending tourists each summer.

Canmore
