We are writing this letter to ask you to reconsider the decision of expanding Three Sisters Mountain Village (TSMV). We are two 12-year-old Grade 6 students trying to protect the wildlife we love.

When we imagine Canmore, we see wildlife and a small community. That includes mountains, plants and animals.

By expanding TSMV, it would mean turning small town Canmore to big town Canmore. We don’t want to be like Calgary or Edmonton. We love our community the way it is.

In school we are learning about the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and how they made decisions with seven generations in mind. If you think seven generations ahead, what will making TSMV bigger help with?

It may bring more people to Canmore, but it will also take away the homes of animals and destroy plants and trees that contribute to making Canmore a better place to visit.

One of the activities our family members enjoy is fishing on the Bow River, but the construction will likely scare the fish away making it harder to catch and release them. We also like biking and walking in an area full of plants, trees and animals. Once you build the houses, there may be no going back. Some of the animals will be gone, maybe forever.

Niamh Bates and Maya Aura,

Canmore
