On the morning of March 3 after the snowstorm with sketchy road conditions outside Morley on Highway 1A and it being –22 Celsius, there was no shoulder and I lost the battle with black ice into a snow-filled ditch with the car on an absurd angle.

Some sincere thank-yous are in order: to  “JD” and his fiancée, who stopped behind me and would not leave until I managed to get in touch with the AMA, who instantly arranged with Big Hill Towing of Cochrane. They sent not one but two of their big tow trucks to the scene; both were needed. Thanks, guys.

And an especially big thank you to all the drivers who stopped, checked on my well-being and offered their assistance.

Proud to be an Albertan.

Ian Rankin,

Canmore
