Mayor Borrowman campaigning already?

Editor: I pity the poor sod who might be thinking of running against Mayor Borrowman in two years’ time, what with the 2/3 page advertorial our current mayor is now running every week it seems (I sure hope it is the mayor’s personal salary and not the taxpayer, who is footing the bill).

Furthermore, it is instructive that the mayor continues to use the term Day Care Lands when he refers to Larch Park. You know, the park that he and our other six councillors unceremoniously pawned off to the jaws of commercialism, in the form of housing – affordable or not. How much of which is yet to be decided by another expensive public relations exercise in the guise of democracy.

I love especially how the mayor labelled those opposed to this development as “…the residents who oppose …” versus; “…the many residents who support …”

I am sure the public record will show at the public hearing that those who spoke out for and against were split an even 50/50. Written letters against were several times more than those in support.

Housing at this moment is a big issue. No question.

But council’s pursuit of the vote from those who are, at present, unable to afford housing or cannot find “appropriate” housing is coming down hard upon the backs of those who saved, worked hard and sacrificed much, decades earlier. Your actions can only mean higher taxes on existing property owners, many of whom are living on fixed incomes now. Your actions are pushing them out of our community.

Are our senior citizens, who worked hard, saved their money and contributed to Canmore over many decades, less desirable than the younger generation?

Be very careful of this current crop at the helm Canmorites. They are on the path of killing the goose that lays the golden eggs.

Hugh Tafel,

Canmore
