Re.: Town of Canmore Interest Payments

It took two weeks and a little to get an answer from the Town.

The answer is, $1.16 million (to be precise $ 1,163,192 - no cents, likely rounded to the next dollar), “... the total amount paid in interest on the municipal debt in 2013 ...”, the Town’s Chief Administrative Officer, Ms. De Soto.

A quick and favourable analyses:

Assuming 17,000 residents, this amounts to $68 and a half per capita.

Assuming two heads per household this is almost $137 per household on your property tax, or your rent, and nothing to show for, absolutely nothing.

You may slice it differently in any way you want. It remains a fiscal irresponsibility.

The time has come to add a few logs to the fire.
