Not an easy task

Editor: In his message of Nov. 3, the mayor wrote in regard to Roam Local, “... (we) will be monitoring the routes and success of the ridership ... and ... Modifications may occur to routing (and) stop locations ...” No easy task considering that the most likely ridership resides in apartments, condos and subsidized and affordable housing spread throughout the valley like freckles.

In my presentation to council in opposition during a public hearing regarding the development of the Upper Benchlands on Sept. 11, 1990, and long before the construction boom had started, I addressed council, “... we (the public) would like to see the framework of a comprehensive urban development plan (since) a public transportation system will sooner or later become an issue ... A population distribution plan should take into account a public transportation network able to service efficiently especially areas with a high population density ...”

And some 18 years later, in 2009, the Canmore Leader quoted Shirocca Consulting, “... Canmore is a new community and its fast paced growth and auto-oriented design were among the major factors that limit its potential as a viable market for local transit ...”. What can I say?

I may not collect a six digit salary. But that does not mean that I am always wrong.
