Obey rules of the road

Today I had two, not one, vehicles pass two or more cars (one of which was mine) through a crosswalk.

This egregious driving offence is witnessed by me almost every single day, and frankly, I’m getting seriously tired of it. I want people to read this letter, and then close their eyes and picture it ... picture your mother, crossing through the crosswalk with her grandchildren.

Picture it, please. I do, every single time. For me, I see my grandchildren ... short little human beings that they are, doing what they are taught to do while crossing the street.

It may sound ridiculous to some, but in my mind’s eye I can literally see them flying through the air. To be honest though, it could be anybody ... it is just not right. There is no possible way that a driver who passes several cars through a crosswalk can see if there was anyone there.

Then there is the infamous passing on the shoulder maneuver in front of Fas Gas. I’m fairly certain that passing on the shoulder is illegal everywhere, as it most especially would/should be at that location.

Our town is busy, we all know that. So, when people are trying to make that left turn, and have to wait for the a break in the oncoming traffic to do so, traffic lineups form. I just want people to wait their turn, it’s only a minute or two at most ... even if it does seem interminable.

If a car is turning left onto Kananaskis Way and a car from the opposite direction is turning into the Fas Gas ... well, both cars would take that opportunity to make their respective turns, pretty much the rule of the road by the handbook.

However, you are taking your life in your hands if you try and “go by the driver’s handbook” because apparently hardly anybody else is.

Two drivers who knew this rule tried to take their respective opportunities to make their turns and guess what happened? The vehicle that decided to pass me, and one other car on the shoulder, almost hit the vehicle who was making their legal left hand turn into the gas station. It was a very narrow miss, so I guess that’s alright.

Having a drivers license is a privilege, isn’t it?
