Editor: It is disappointing to see that, while the Outlook provided a balance article regarding the Quarry Lake Trails, the result has been the spreading of misinformation and attacks against groups who are taking a responsible, informed and collaborative approach toward improving the community.

It is simply irresponsible for the vocal minority to determine the fate for the silent majority. People in Canmore recreate, they believe in protecting the environment and they believe in a balanced, informed approach to addressing sensitive issues.

Council members largely hear only negative voices, people who criticize and fight issues from the fringe. I urge council not to be manipulated by misinformation designed to serve people’s own purposes when thoughtful planning happens to bring community-oriented projects forward that respond to the balanced interests and needs of a large number of residents.

Often the silent majority is uncomfortable speaking out because they know by doing so they open themselves to personal attacks and bullying.

The Quarry Park project is not a destination trail. It is not a flow trail. It is inaccurate to call it a bike park. It’s a trail, one that will provide valuable recreation opportunities for the community while balancing the need to protect the environment.
