Roads are not accomodations

As a resident that has an appreciation for all that Canmore has to offer, I have been confronted with a true conundrum.

The west end of Kananaskis Way has become a “tent city” for a few people who have decided it is appropriate to use the end of this street to park their campers and essentially live off the grid.

Having lived in here for 16 years, I can appreciate that this town can be expensive. However, I have never had to live on the street.

My problem is that as a taxpayer on this Kananaskis Way I have to view this Gypsy Camp taking advantage of gaps in our town bylaws. After reviewing the bylaws of Calgary, Edmonton, Red Dear and Lethbridge, I learned that it is prohibited to live in an RV or trailer on a public roadway.

As it should be. Canmore has RV lots open all year long and it seems appropriate that these people should make use of these facilities. It is my hope that the Town of Canmore will take appropriate measures to ensure that our roadways are available for vacationers and guests staying in our hotels and visiting our shops and restaurants.

Free up our streets.
