Take back our town

Editor: I want to thank all of the Banffites who signed the no paid parking petition. We had no problem gathering approximately 1,000 signatures (approximately 15 per cent more than required to force council to not introduce pay parking).

I want to thank all of the Banffites who signed the no paid parking petition. We had no problem gathering approximately 1,000 signatures (approximately 15 per cent more than required to force council to not introduce pay parking). We will continue gathering signatures until the petition is presented at the Monday, July 21 council meeting which begins at 2 p.m. I urge all who believe that we need to take back our town to attend this meeting.

And on a related matter: Did you know that the Town has made one of the three parking stalls in front of the Bank of Montreal into a police parking only stall? Park there and you run the risk of getting a $50 ticket – reduced to $30 if you pay within seven days.

A Canmore-based delivery driver just told me that another reason why this police-only spot was created was so that the police could more easily watch for drunks coming out of the bars at night. The police can park anywhere, anytime.

To the Town’s credit they have removed other police parking spots from surface parking lots. This new police parking only parking stall is a revenue generator for the Town pure and simple that, until all locals are aware of this change, amounts to entrapment.
